Giving Back, One Bag at a Time: Catalyst Pet Donates More Than 34 Tons of Litter to Rescue Partners

Catalyst Pet is donating nearly 6,861 bags of litter, totaling more than 34 tons, to rescue
and shelter partners across the country. The donation is the result of our third annual
Buy a Bag, Give a Bag program, which ran from Dec. 2 to Jan. 1. For every bag of
Catalyst litter purchased during that time, we pledged to donate a second bag to one of
our rescue partners.

“For the third year in a row, we received an overwhelming amount of support from our
customers for this holiday initiative that supports these amazing rescues and shelters
around the country,” says Catalyst Pet’s Cammie Kaminski. “We’re so excited to be able
to offer this extra support, especially at a time when many shelters and rescues are
seeing an increase in the number of cats and kittens needing help.”

This year’s donation reflects not only the generosity of our customers, but a
commitment that’s been part of Catalyst Pet since the beginning. Our rescue and
shelter program, launched in 2020, is built on a simple belief: Sustainability should lift up
both the planet and the communities caring for it. Through partnerships with more than
100 rescue groups, shelters and TNR organizations nationwide, we work to provide the
resources these organizations need to keep doing the work that matters. To date,
Catalyst Pet has donated more than 344,000 pounds of litter to rescue and shelter
partners.

That support makes a real difference on the ground.

“Catalyst Pet works incredibly well. It’s especially perfect for our special needs cats,”
says Mary Linn Lombardo, the founder and executive director of New Jersey-based
Only Kindness Rescue. “We’re so grateful for the help, and it allows us to continue
providing sanctuary and adoptable cats with the best of everything we can offer.”
From donating litter monthly and raising awareness about the rescues’ efforts through
marketing initiatives, to providing a free bag of litter to new cat parents, Catalyst Pet
works with numerous nonprofits nationwide to support them in the ways they need. Last
year’s Buy a Bag, Give a Bag initiative gave more than 1,200 bags of litter to our shelter
and rescue partners.

“It’s about supporting our community and lending a hand wherever we can,” says
Kaminski. “That’s why we started this program and are working hard to continue to grow
it.”

Why You Should Leave Clay Litter in the Dust

Most cat lovers are not aware that clay litters are made of sodium bentonite, a mineral that is strip-mined and not biodegradable, but that’s not where the problems end. Clay litter can also be unhealthy for your furry feline.
